Is ERP outsourcing necessary for all organizations?

ERP has been beneficial to an organization in many ways. In that context there is another debate questioning the validating process of Enterprise Resource Planning. When much has been said about ERP what is the necessity to outsource it? In what way will it be beneficial to the company? The vendor's interest deserves no mention. He definitely gains additional profits when compared with the process of outsourcing ERP services.

Some of the issues deserving attention in this context are as follows:

Know-how

Many companies have implemented ERP and on their own Efforts. A large majority of them have succeeded while many of them have failed. Infact the companies that failed served to give valuable lessons to the future players. It is not the question of failing or succeeding but the question of acquisition of multiple skills or making ERP mandatory. While it is always better to try things by one's own self it is no mistake to consult the opinion of the third parties.

This is not to reflect any opinion like companies are unable to acquire ERP on their own. The stress is on the proficiencies and expertise of the ERP vendor who can do work (more than that of a helping hand).The companies need not see them as a challenge for their efficiency or skill but only realize the necessity of ERP outsourcing. Instead they can be optimistically viewed as business partner who exchanges knowledge for other interests.

When it comes to Business process outsourcing companies outsource purely for cost constraints and other competitive advantages. They do foresee technical advantages but they are not the deciding factor. The ultimate issue is finance as finance is said to be the lifeblood of business. This is not the only need for ERP outsourcing.

On the contrary ERP outsourcing needs is primarily aimed at technological advantages and the cost factor occupies the third position. Why is the necessity of ERP outsourcing ignored? One can go to the extent of terming this as the utmost profitable outsourcing venture. This clearly establishes the concrete advantages for a company to outsource ERP though it does not undermine the occurrences of errors. Hence ERP outsourcing draws several needs.

Finance and work routine

As discussed in the earlier paragraph finance occupies a very important seat for the normal functioning, existence and establishing the goals of the organization. Every company or business entity in the earth has got profit making as one of its main goal. This is not something new but it is again a remainder that it is of quoted verse which applies universally not to business houses from time immemorial.

That being the case why should companies refuse to outsource? It appears impractical to let loose an opportunity to save money and gain technological eminence as well and that too through the effort of another person.

ERP implementation when done by the company tends to disturb the routine schedule. The question of ERP 's necessity makes This is a good factor when it comes to change management but when it comes to the question of losing potential business remains unanswered. There is another school of thought who argues that such loss can be recouped later when ERP fully functions successfully. They also hold that it can double the profit when ERP succeeds and also agree that it will turn to be a loss if ERP is not successful in the organization. The concept of outsourcing does away with this gamble.

Conclusion

ERP outsourcing is not free from limitations or flaws like leaking of the company's confidential information and inflexibility of the third party. However other benefits outplay the aforesaid and thereby strongly advocate ERP.
