What are the major differences between ERPII and ERP?

ERP II is best studied by comparing it with the features of erp. All the articles belonging to this session will highlight them explicitly. This article analyses them ERP II and ERP deeply.

Some of the comparative features are as follows:

Wide intensive and extensive coverage.

Enterprise resource planning was adopted in two modules. Some of them adapted selected intensive coverage while others went for wide extensive coverage. Both methods did not give the much needed relief for enterprise operations. It was found that the concentration to the individual and macro elements was not focused properly. In the first case there was not enough attention on the macro element. Meanwhile the second process had a very little say on the individual components. This was an error in ERP.

ERP II provided an easy answer to these troubles as it had the unique blend of both. The basic feature of ERP II was to mix and match these elements in right proportions.Needless to say they gave enough coverage to both the sides of the coin namely micro and macro. Similarly the coverage levels were also high. ERP II greatly helped companies to benefit from this because they were not only able to identify as and when things went wrong but also provided the required remedial measures. These remedies in ERP II helped to overcome the error in ERP.
Extends the scope of ERP from a manufacturer's tool
Enterprise Resource planning was always associated with the manufacturing sector. Whenever the word enterprise resource planning came into use one was automatically remained of logistics, supply chain and ware house. Of course no one denied the fact that it was a software program developed and manufactured by the IT sector. The benefits and use of ERP was by and large restricted to the manufacturing sector. The benefits received by the sector stood a testimony to the above statement. Even though this is both an error in ERP it remained to be a big drawback.

Other sectors did not receive the required benefits from ERP. Many modules and operation modalities were largely suited to the manufacturing sector. The remaining sectors did enjoy the benefits of ERP but they were either less than the demanded quantum or lower than the huge benefits received from the manufacturing sector. ERP II overcame this limitation and offered a solution suited for all industries and sectors. Another encouraging fact is that the solutions offered equal benefits to the other sectors as well.
Flexibility in handling functions
ERP was a rigid application when it comes to the question of handling functions. ERP was more prone to serving individual functions. Even though they served multiple functions they did not always cater to different functions from different category. On the contrary ERP II could not only integrate different functions from different departments but also different function from different industries.
Operates superficially
ERP was more of an internal application that left many clueless of how things are going around. This is not an issue of transparency but a question of clarity. Since the process was more internalized it was not easily to identify the reasons for complication. ERP II Revolutionized the function to an external one and facilitated better networks.
WEB centric application
ERP II facilitated access to internet and made it a part of the working component. Even though ERP was a web friendly application it did not make full use of internet but they served as a means of support. This act equals possessing technology and not using it. However ERP had its own reservations in using internet abundantly. ERP II worked on them and hence became totally a web friendly application.

Conclusion

The comparative study of ERP II and ERP shows that it overplays its successor in all areas. The advancement makes one to question if the remedies in ERP II will replace ERP from the picture of enterprise application.
