Facilitates decision making
Management Information systems are an important tool that helps companies to make decisions quickly and in an effective manner. They add value and meaning to the existence of computers and other information processing devices. These devices can process information. The processed information will be of no use unless they are put forward to the concerned person's attention so as to aid him in the process of decision making. The results would also help the managers to draw comparative figures based on the presentations made period wise and therefore help in implementing and reviewing suggestions.
Helps in setting 'plan of Action'
Management information systems help to identify and make out the errors in policies and procedures. For e.g. a company may not have a uniform system for making purchases. This might lead to misuse of the resources and improper allocation. Management Information systems when put in place in that company will help them to decide on a uniform system for purchase whereby they can be brought under the control of one specific department like the department of human resource or the finance department. The authorities of this department can formulate the guidelines to be followed in making and dispatching purchases and monitoring them as well. This will help the companies to establish a centre or centers for carrying out particular function or functions. Their working and objective cannot be achieved without a proper system in place like MIS. Management information systems will help to set metrics and see to that evaluation and assessment helps to overcome the discrepancies faced in the system till then.
The process of management information system
Management Information Systems is not implemented all on a sudden usually a company sets up some committees for this purpose. The committee will be divided on the basis of some functions like technical, non technical or departmental wise or on the basis of geographical location or under any other category as per the needs and demands of the company. Each committee will be constituted of expert members from the respective field. They will explore on each and every segment in the organization and go about deciding the design of the organization for implementing management Information systems. They will also form sub committees for the purpose of assisting . accordingly work will be delegated according to the authority. The senior management will consider the recommendations of this committee for implementing the management Information systems.
Some Do's and Dont's
It is always advised to maintain stability in the implementation team. In many cases organizations tend to shuffle them in the midway. This should not be encouraged whatsoever be the importance of the task for which such shuffle is sought. Once the system is implemented adequate training should be provided to the end user. This is regarded as a crucial factor for any enterprise application to succeed in the organization. There should be periodical assessments of the way things are handled in the organization. When the Management Information system is about to be implemented in an organization it should be checked again if things have fallen in shape as per the scheduled plan. If not they can be corrected even in the last minute. No enterprise operation will take place successfully if they are not backed up buy proper schedules and plan of action as discussed earlier.

This will be followed by adverse consequences. The managerial decisions won't reflect on the true problems. In order to avoid these hassles Management information Systems should be properly designed and executed to render the intended benefits.
