These two factors could pose a large challenge to Vendor himself. He has to be meticulous in planning the ERP system for hospitals because unlike other industries the work gets differentiated from one hospital to the other.

Work nature

If one were to code and define a job description or specification to the entire hospital industry the one phrase answer will be "24 hours and 365 days". The ultimate objective of saving human lives never experiences a change even though the argument that it a business which comes under service industry.

This means that they are prepared to work at any time more so vibrantly during emergency and life saving situations. It thus becomes important to maintain a dynamic and flexible work atmosphere in the industry. During an ERP implementation and subsequent use it is important that organizations follow some common time code and practices relating to work duration.

This equally applies to a hospital industry. But given the nature of work it becomes extremely difficult to maintain these standards. The challenge of an ERP vendor lies in overcoming this menace. All though it is practically impossible to break this barrier except in the rarest of the rare cases the least he can do is to reduce the losses on this account.

Confidentiality

The databases of patient records helps in treatment for any doctor and in any hospital (provided they form a part or of the ERP system) .This has raised lot of questions on the basis of confidentiality. On the other hand when it comes to misuse it is being used by medical institutions for commercial purpose too. Customer erp of hospitals is yet to overcome this drawback in design.
