Fourth Generation Programming Language
A fourth generation programming language (4GL) refers to a descriptive term used for programming language and environments meant for certain purposes like the development of commercial business software. The 4GL is the successor of 3GL and it follows its predecessor in an upward trend toward higher abstraction and statement power. The 4GL is once again followed by 5GL. The most impressive feature of 3GL is its natural language and block structure mode. It improved the process of the development of software. But their development methods were not prompt and were prone to various errors. But many applications can be developed by adding higher level of programming language It was predicted that this method would generate equivalent instructions like that of 3GL with fewer errors. So the development of 4GL and 5GL were oriented toward problem solving and system engineering. Many reaserchers share the view that 4GLS are a kind of sub-set of DSLs or Domain Specific Programming Language. More Terms Explained Here... |
